Jon and Kate Minus 8
Thursday, May 28th, 2009Sadly, if Jon and Kate do not do the hard work, they may be better described as Jon & Kate Minus 8. Will one of them lose? No, ten of them will. Either way, if separation or divorce is the outcome, then the result forever changes the relationship of the parents to the children.
The Randall House Biggest Loser – weight loss
Wednesday, May 20th, 2009The group lost Forty-eight and a half pounds. Twenty-one are participating and sixteen weighed in yesterday (Others out on vacation or traveling) for average loss of three pounds a person. The biggest loser yesterday lost eight pounds. I lost five and a half.
We are awarding prizes for daily water consumption, weekly exercise, and the weight that is lost. Randall House has been blessed not to have to face any layoffs because of the current economic climate, so we are looking to layoff the equivalent of one person by July 14 our first benchmark and the equivalent of two people by the week of the D6 Conference.
Developing writers
Saturday, May 16th, 2009For those of you attending the National Association of Free Will Baptists, I am putting together just such a workshop. I have invited in some of our best writers with a variety of publishing expertise. Each author has an assigned topic and together they will give you 90 minutes of valuable insight. Below are the topics they will unpack and how the session will look.
Twittering and publishing
Friday, May 8th, 2009What is twittering doing for the publishing world? Simply, it is developing better writers. Most people have never operated on a word count. Yes, texting has a 160-character limit but the contrast there is that the message is for one person and little concern is given to how it is constructed. When you have a limit of 140 characters and the knowledge or desire that others will read it, you work to shape that message.
Saving while investing
Monday, May 4th, 2009Parents, ministers, and leaders are investing in their families by coming to the D6 Conference, but the real investment is when they bring two to three sets of parents to attend with them. When the staff returns from a conference and talks about shifts in ministry to benefit the congregation, the hardest part of the shift is getting buy in from core lay people and parents. When you take key influencers with you, that shift can take place much more quickly and with a strong buy in from families who attend the conference with you. The greatest dividend will be realized because you are investing in your church and families.
