Never Leave the Office without it–
By Ron | May 24, 2007

If you think I am talking about an American Express Card, you would be only half right. Traveling seems appealing until you travel often. Maybe I am the only one who is not so smart but I often forget my room number. They frown on me going down the hallway sticking my key card into every door to see which door it opens. I have to keep the room number in my pocket. If I forget my room number, I am sure you can connect the dots and see where flight numbers, rental and hotel confirmation numbers would be even more of a challenge.
When you are in one town one evening and another the next, it is easy to forget certain things or at least that is my excuse. Calisse, my administrative assistant who organizes my business days and travel, is truly incredible with creating a travel folder for every trip. She makes sure I have it at my desk the week I have to leave. I grab it and place it in the same spot in my brief case. She also adds the flights to my calendar and then syncs with my TRÉO.
Inside the folder, she prints out my airline confirmation, my hotel confirmation, and Map Quest or Goggle Trip of where I am going from airport to hotel and hotel to event. I do travel with a portable GPS (Garmin 530 Pilot). But the printouts provide backup should there be any satellite problems or other unforeseen issues.
The most important item I travel with that I can not imagine leaving the office without is an itinerary form that we have designed. It is available here for you to download. Fill it out before you travel and staple it to the front cover of the travel folder. (Hint: staple all four corners so that it stays put while sliding in and out of your briefcase.) At one glance, this form provides everything you need while on the go. Easy access to the right information is vital. Please use it and adapt it to make it work for you. When you leave the office, take your American Express and this itinerary form and you will not regret it.

I truly hope Steve Faison didn’t get lost in San Fransisco LOL. I don’t travel so much anymore – however – I see a lot of parking garages and I have the same problem with remembering where I park. I simply type the floor level and parking space number into my Blackberry Note Pad. I keep that category there and never walk away from my car without typing it in. It works very well, in fact just last week I took a visiting dignitary and his wife out to some fine DC Dining – how embarrasing it would have been had I lost my car.

now if I could just afford blackberry’s for both of my kids so they would remember to brush their teeth without me having to tell them LOL
