Thanksgiving Wall
By Ron | November 20, 2008
Yesterday, we had all employees (team members as I like to call them) together for our annual Thanksgiving luncheon. It is a great potluck feast where Randall House provides the meat (turkey and ham) and each department brings a certain type of dish such as desserts, salads, vegetables, etc. What a feast! We are just not very good after eating this meal. Seeing everyone engage and have fun talking among their tables is very rewarding as it reflects camaraderie and affection.
We did something new this year. My administrative assistant, Calisse, who runs my professional life and makes me look far better than I deserve, came up with a new twist for this year. Here is how it unfolded. Our team embraced the idea and as you can tell from the picture, we are filling the wall quickly.
We placed a banner that says “Today We Give Thanks” in bold scripted letters and a quote from Henry Ward Beecher, “Remember God’s bounty in this year. String the pearls of His favor. Hide the dark parts, except for as they are breaking out in light! Give this one day to thanks,
joy, and gratitude.” Every place setting was set and it included a bright colored pad of “post-it notes.” Then, after a short thanksgiving devotion, each team member was challenged throughout the meal to write items for which they are thankful on post-it notes and place them on the wall. Quickly, the wall began to transform into a sea of grateful notes ranging from serious “Thankful for wife and children,” to “Thankful for family members who do not live close.” Then there are items like sports teams, Mac computers, and a myriad of others. They are invited to continue to place the notes on the wall until we shut down for Christmas. Can’t wait to see what it will look like then.

- in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
[ 1 Thessalonians 5:18 ]
I give God thanks for meeting you & Pam recently, and for our friendship/s.

Thanks for sharing this idea! We used it at our church and it went great. One note was from a woman who had been out of work who was thankful for a new job. Another was from a 6 year old boy who was thankful for his family and listed everyone, including the dog.
